BB Tackles Agrarian Tempest: Organic Capital Under Pressure

The Brazilian Bank (BB) faces significant challenges in managing its agricultural sector, with increased provisions impacting its organic capital levels. The vice-president of finance at BB confirmed efforts to diversify business lines and restore profitability amid these pressures.

The Brazilian Bank (BB) is navigating through an economic storm, particularly in the agri-business sector, which has required strategic responses. According to Geovanne Tobias, vice-president of finance at BB, the organic capital levels are facing significant pressure. This challenge primarily stems from increased provisions to cover losses within their agricultural portfolio, which contributed R$ 37 billion in the first half of this year. Tobias highlighted the necessity for diversifying the conglomerate's business lines to alleviate the pressure, while also aiming to restore profitability. The organic capital of BB has decreased to 11.27% during the second quarter of 2026 from previous levels. However, Tobias assured that the situation is within forecasted parameters and adjustments can be made for improved capital ratios in the future.
