BC Warns of Risks Posed by Concentration in AI Services Market for Financial Institutions

The Central Bank warned of the risks posed by concentration in the AI services market for financial institutions. The Denor coordinator emphasized the importance of diversifying service providers to ensure financial stability, while the BC remains vigilant over the sector.

The Central Bank (BC) recently warned about the risks associated with the concentration of the market for artificial intelligence (AI) service providers used by institutions within the National Financial System (SFN). During the Zetta Summit 2026, Carlos André de Melo Alves, coordinator at the Department of Financial System Regulation (Denor), highlighted that a potential failure in a key provider could significantly impact financial stability. According to Melo Alves, major institutions in segment 1 (S1) are already implementing internal AI models, though there remain disparities in their use by cooperatives and other regulated entities. The coordinator emphasized the importance of diversifying service providers for AI to mitigate such risks, noting that the BC is closely monitoring the market and ready to take necessary measures if significant issues arise. This situation reflects a global trend where advanced technologies like AI are gaining prominence in the financial sector but also raise concerns about security and operational stability.
