Bolsa Família: A Positive Financial Relief Amid Economic Deceleration
A 15% increase in Bolsa Família is viewed as a financial relief, despite the context of economic deceleration. While the impact will be moderate, particularly for 2026, any positive boost is considered beneficial. The government estimates that the increase will cost R$ 5.8 billion in 2026 and R$ 22.7 billion in 2027.
The Secretary of Fiscal Policy at the Ministry of Finance, Débora Freire, recently announced that a 15% increase in the Bolsa Família program will be a positive factor for the economy in 2027. However, she emphasized that this effect is likely to be moderate given the current economic dynamics and current monetary policy measures. According to Freire, the benefit adjustment would contribute positively to economic activity in 2027 as it has more time to impact the economy, with increases extending throughout the year. For 2026, there are no expectations of an economic impact due to the increase only starting from October. Even so, any positive boost is considered beneficial amid a general context of economic deceleration. Freire stressed that this adjustment does not contradict current monetary policy measures and considers a backdrop of flexible monetary policy. It's important to note that the Ministry’s Department of Fiscal Policy has not included these impacts in its updated projections for GDP and inflation, which were established before the increase announcement. The cost estimates are R$ 5.8 billion in 2026 and R$ 22.7 billion in 2027.
