China: Service Sector PMI Highlights Domestic Demand Strength

The service sector PMI released by RatingDog highlights that domestic demand is strengthening China’s economy, while exports face challenges. Despite the deceleration in export business, job creation gains support a more resilient private sector recovery than official data suggest.

The latest economic data from China, particularly the service sector PMI released by RatingDog, has unveiled an interesting pattern. The August reading of the RatingDog services PMI reached 51.4%, a significant increase compared to July's 50.4% and staying above the threshold that separates growth from contraction. While this is one of the lowest readings in 14 months, it signals a moderate expansion rate in China’s economy. The robust domestic demand has contributed significantly to this rise, while exports have faced challenges with export business new growth decelerating. This internal strength is partly offset by job creation gains, which are among the strongest rates seen in three years, reinforcing the perception of a more resilient private sector recovery than official data suggest. However, concerns remain, including slower export new business and rising input prices, indicating a complex economic growth scenario.
