Credit Crisis: Challenges and Perspectives in Brazil

The credit crisis in Brazil’s structured credit market exposed frauds in overvalued portfolios and unsecured assets, impacting 1.5 million clients. Despite this, the sector grew significantly, reaching a net asset value of R$741 billion, with retail access increasing. Digitalization in origination has not yet been matched by robust solutions for verifying underlying assets.

In recent years, the Brazilian structured credit market has faced a period of intense tension. Between late 2025 and early 2026, serious frauds and negligence were revealed, compromising the integrity of FIDC (Fundo de Investimento em Direitos Creditórios) portfolios. According to sector experts, the crisis was estimated at over R$11 billion, affecting approximately 1.5 million clients directly. The paradox is that despite these challenges, the FIDC market has grown significantly: by November 2025, the net asset value of these funds surpassed R$741 billion, a growth of 22.5% over the year. Access to retail investors also increased, with liquid capitation from the class reaching R$30 billion in the first half of 2026. Digitalization has advanced in the origination of structured credit but robust solutions for verifying the underlying assets are still lacking. These data highlight that the FIDC market faces significant challenges in preserving confidence among players and clients, necessitating more robust solutions to ensure transparency and financial security.
