Cury Advocates for Minimum Wage Increase, Department Cuts and Taxation Proposals
Augusto Cury proposes a minimum wage increase of 1% annually to bolster Brazil's middle class. He also suggests cutting up to ten ministries, including the creation of an AI and robotics agency, while advocating for higher taxation on bets.
Candidate to the Presidency by Avante, Augusto Cury, unveiled a series of economic proposals during an interview on TV Globo. Among them is his suggestion for a real minimum wage increase of 1% annually, aimed at strengthening Brazil's middle class. According to current rules, the adjustment in the minimum wage is based on inflation plus the variation of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from two years prior. However, with Cury's proposal, this value could be lower depending on these economic parameters. Additionally, he proposed cutting up to ten ministries, including the creation of a new agency for artificial intelligence and robotics, arguing that this is essential to address demographic challenges and global technological issues. This strategy might also result in significant reductions within the existing government structure. Public debt was another focal point for Cury, who stated it is at 'stratospheric' levels, requiring budget adjustments and measures such as eliminating around 50,000 appointed positions. The proposals also involve fiscal matters, including a possible revision of the tax on bets, which could increase to levels above the current 12%. These changes might have positive or negative impacts on the financial sector and investors. These plans reflect a multifaceted approach towards public debt reduction and administrative modernization, seeking a balance between bureaucratic efficiency and fiscal sustainability.
