DIGITALIZATION DILEMMA: INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENTS VS. TECHNOLOGY ECONOMY

The digitalization of businesses requires modern urban infrastructure, but current investment levels are insufficient. Experts warn that this disparity may limit productivity and economic competitiveness in Brazil.

In today's rapidly evolving technological landscape, the digital transformation of businesses is at the forefront of operational strategies. However, while advancements in technology accelerate, urban infrastructure modernization has lagged behind, posing a significant challenge to economic growth. The Brazilian government invests approximately R$ 250 billion annually in infrastructure, or around 2% of its GDP, but according to the Confederation of National Industry (CNI), this figure needs to be doubled for necessary modernizations. Key priorities include updating energy and transportation networks, universalizing access to 5G and fiber optics, and advancing basic sanitation services. Modern infrastructure supports corporate productivity and urban competitiveness in a world increasingly dependent on digital capabilities. Cities that effectively invest in these upgrades can become attractive locations for both investments and residency; those lagging behind risk devaluation.
