Economic Experts Lower Projections for Inflation and Economic Growth in Brazil
Economic experts have lowered their projections for inflation in Brazil while maintaining moderate expectations for economic growth and the Selic rate, reflecting a cautious outlook on future economic stability.
Brazilian economic experts appear to be becoming more cautious with their projections according to the Focus report released by the Central Bank. The median estimate of inflation, as measured by IPCA for 2026, was adjusted from 5.03% to 5.02%, while it remained at 4.22% for 2027. Interest rate projections maintained Selic rates at 13.75% in 2026, 12% in 2027 and 10.50% in 2028. These numbers reflect a global trend towards lower inflation forecasts, influenced by factors such as global economic stabilization and fiscally responsible measures adopted by governments. However, the GNP projection for 2026 was slightly revised to 1.98%, while estimates for 2027 and 2028 remained at 1.52% and 2%. This indicates a moderate expectation of economic growth in the coming years. The dollar also maintained its exchange rate projections: R$ 5.20 by 2026, R$ 5.28 by 2027, and R$ 5.30 by 2028. These data reflect confidence among experts regarding future currency stability.
