Economic Projections Slightly Adjust for Future Inflation
Projections for future inflation have slightly increased for 2026 and 2027, while the Selic interest rate has remained stable. Small adjustments were also made to GDP growth expectations.
In the national economic landscape, projections of the National Consumer Price Index (IPCA) have seen slight adjustments in the coming years. According to the Focus report recently released by the Central Bank (BC), the forecast for 2026 increased marginally from 4.92% to 4.99%. For 2027, the projection rose from 4.30% to 4.31%, while the IPCA 12-month smoothed index also saw a slight increase, going from 4.62% to 4.65%. These small variations reflect an economic environment where expert predictions are being adjusted based on the latest available information.
In the financial market scenario, the benchmark interest rate (Selic) remains stable, with projections for 2026 and 2028 at 13.50% and 10.50%, respectively. For 2027, the Selic stayed unchanged at 12%. This stability reflects a balance between inflationary pressures and the central bank's efforts to control the economy without compromising economic growth.
Regarding Gross Domestic Product (GDP), future projections also showed slight adjustments. The forecast for 2026 was revised from 1.88% to 1.86%, while for 2027, the expectation dropped from 1.43% to 1.41%. For 2028, the growth prediction went down from 1.87% to 1.83%. These small variations reflect the complexity of the economic scenario and the persistent uncertainties in the market.
