Fed Updates Projections: Economic Growth and Inflation Under New Outlook

The Federal Reserve has updated its economic projections, predicting higher GDP growth rates and lower unemployment for the coming years. However, inflation is a growing concern, expected to remain pressurized in the short term.

In the latest Federal Reserve (Fed) meeting, projections for the United States' Gross Domestic Product (GDP) have been revised to reflect a more robust economic outlook in the short term. According to updated forecasts, GDP growth is now estimated at 2.3% this year and 2.4% for the next business cycle. The Fed also projects lower unemployment rates, with an estimate of 4.1% for 2029, below historical averages. However, there are growing concerns about inflation, which is now projected to be more pressing in the short term. The core Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index is forecasted to reach its target of 2% only by 2029, while PCE inflation is expected at 3.7% this year and 2.0% in 2028. These changes reflect a more dynamic but also challenging economy where growth, employment, and price stability seem to be finely balanced. Source original: Valor Econômico
