Futures Interest Rates Ease Pressure Following US Treasury’s Action
Brazilian futures interest rates experienced a robust decline following the action by the U.S. Treasury to increase bond repurchases. This move alleviated pressure on U.S. note yields and had a positive impact globally and in Brazil, where various DI contract rates recorded significant reductions.
On Wednesday's session, Brazilian futures interest rates saw a significant drop, influenced by the unexpected decision of the U.S. Department of the Treasury to increase bond repurchases from $2 billion to $4 billion. This action alleviated pressure on American note yields, particularly those of the 30-year T-Bond. The move not only calmed the U.S. market but also had a positive impact globally and in Brazil, where Depositary Receipt (DI) contracts with various maturities recorded significant reductions in interest rates. The DI rate for January 2027 fell to 13.73%, while that of January 2029 dropped to 14.53%. This movement reflects the global relief observed in response to the U.S. Treasury's intervention, which has been a pertinent issue due to recent increases in American long-term rates. Experts suggest that this decision could have significant implications for future interest rates, potentially altering the current macroeconomic landscape.
