Gold Holds Steady Despite Higher Interest Rate Expectations
Gold futures ended relatively stable this Friday, reflecting its value as an asset amidst rising expectations of higher interest rates by the Federal Reserve in the United States. The market's continued demand for gold suggests ongoing resilience amid inflationary concerns and energy shocks.
Despite the rising expectations of higher interest rates by the Federal Reserve (Fed) in the United States, gold prices have maintained relative stability, reflecting its role as a valuable asset amid global economic uncertainties. With inflationary concerns persisting and highlighted by recent data such as August's Consumer Price Index (CPI), futures contracts for gold concluded this Friday with little change. In the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange (Nymex), gold prices for delivery in September saw a minor increase of 0.04%, settling at US$ 4,366.20 per troy ounce. This stability suggests that even as expectations of monetary tightening grow, markets still view gold as an important store of value during economically uncertain periods. Ole Hansen from Saxo Bank highlighted the ongoing demand for gold among central banks and its role in portfolio diversification, especially amid fiscal sustainability concerns and recent energy shocks. These factors continue to support a constructive long-term outlook for gold despite current pressures from more restrictive monetary conditions.
