Goldman Sachs Stands Bullish on Gold Despite Market Pullback
Despite recent retracement in the gold market, Goldman Sachs remains bullish on the metal, indicating potential buying opportunities at current levels and highlighting central bank accumulation as a key driver of the trend.
In the ever-evolving macroeconomic landscape, Goldman Sachs has maintained its optimistic outlook on gold, asserting that the upward trend is far from over. Although the precious metal has retraced about 20% of its January highs, the institution views this as a temporary pause driven by economic uncertainties and geopolitical disruptions. Key factors contributing to the current state include uncertainty surrounding the Federal Reserve's future leadership under Jerome Powell, along with challenges posed by the conflict between the United States and Iran, which have affected energy, agriculture, and metals markets. Nonetheless, Goldman does not see this as an indication of a bullish reversal in gold trends, suggesting that there is potential for buying at current levels, particularly if the US dollar weakens further. Additionally, the bank highlights increased central bank accumulation of gold since 2022, representing about 1,000 to 1,100 tonnes annually – a significant increase from pre-Russia-Ukraine conflict averages. However, Asian demand remains constrained due to sanctions and other monetary concerns. Goldman advises gradual market entry at current levels, with $4,000 per troy ounce serving as a key support level that will be tested by upcoming Consumer Price Index (CPI) data this week.
