Government Revises Projections Positively for Primary Result in 2026

The federal government has revised its projections for the primary result of 2026, now predicting a surplus of R$ 34.3 billion, up from an earlier projected deficit. The improvement stems from higher revenues and adjustments in mandatory expenditures.

The federal government announced on Friday (24) a positive revision of projections for the primary result of the central government in 2026. According to the Bimonthly Report on Assessment of Revenues and Expenditures, the target has been adjusted from a previously projected deficit of R$ 34.3 billion to an estimated surplus now at R$ 34.3 billion, with a tolerance margin that allows for even zero results in the year. This represents a significant improvement in the projection, reflecting better revenues and budget adjustments expected in the near future. The revisions are based on an increase of R$ 19.2 billion in primary total revenues and a slight reduction in mandatory government expenditures. These projections show not only increasing confidence in national economic scenarios but also the need to maintain fiscal discipline amid global financial challenges, with ongoing political and economic uncertainties continuing to influence budgetary decisions worldwide.
