Indian Treasury Bills: Analysis of Recent Auction Results

Recent auction results for Indian treasury bills showed varying levels of demand across different maturities, with higher interest in long-term bonds. The partial allocations ranged from 5.1233% to 96%, indicating a balanced supply and demand situation.

In the latest government bond auction cycle in India, varying levels of demand were observed across different maturities. The 91-day treasury bill saw a significant number of competitive bids (106), totaling ₹22,188 crore, which exceeds the notified amount. However, only 58 bids were accepted for issuance, resulting in an acceptance rate of 5.1233%. This suggests that while there is interest, there remains potential for increased competition and price strategy adjustments. The 182-day auction had fewer competitive bids (68) but similarly low acceptance rates (54). Nevertheless, the partial allocation of 57.7706% indicates that investors are still willing to support this maturity segment. Finally, the 364-day treasury bill saw a nearly full allocation with an acceptance rate of 96%, signaling strong demand in the market. These results have significant implications for Indian public finances and international investors, especially considering global instability. The weighted average yield (WAY) ranged from 5.3682% to 6.0672%, reflecting a desired balance between supply and demand. Source original: Reserve Bank of India
