Macroeconomic Indicators Suggest Slowing Momentum and Industrial Concerns
Released data on Thursday indicated potential slowing momentum in Brazil's economy with drops in business expectations and smaller surpluses in certain accounts of the current account of payments.
On the latest Thursday, Brazil's economic landscape was marked by a mix of signals pointing to a potential slowing momentum. Key highlights included the Monthly Pnad Contínua for July, along with the FGV Ibre Industrial Confidence Survey and the Central Bank's External Sector Report. The Pnad Contínua offers insights into household welfare, while the survey provides valuable information on industrial sentiment. The Industrial Confidence Index (ICI) saw a 2.9-point drop in July to 97.2 points, indicating reduced business optimism, particularly with declining future expectations that hit their lowest level since December 2025. These trends suggest a less positive outlook for the near term in the manufacturing sector. In contrast, there was an improvement in the trade balance surplus reflecting better export performance. However, a service deficit and reduced foreign reserves raise concerns about the sustainability of this external recovery.
