Market Scenes: Updates and Projections for the European and American Sessions
The European and American sessions are expected to remain stable with key highlights on Swiss CPI data and final PMIs. In America, focus will be on jobless claims and manufacturing trends amid inflationary pressures.
In today's European session, the Swiss CPI data will be a key highlight, expected to rise to 1.0% from 0.8% in the previous month. This figure is unlikely to change anything for the SNB, which remains content with its steady monetary policy stance amid core inflation within target. Meanwhile, final PMIs for major Eurozone economies and the UK will be released but are seen as less impactful due to market focus on initial readings rather than final data releases. In the American session, attention turns to jobless claims and the US ISM Manufacturing PMI. Jobless claims figures are expected at 200K from 197K, while continuing claims may reach 1.725 million against 1.719 million in the prior period. These figures will not change the Fed's stance given its inflationary focus and robust employment data. The ISM Manufacturing PMI is forecast at 55.0 from 54.6, but it has lost some of its market-moving potential due to earlier release of S&P Global US PMIs which showed a strong acceleration in economic activity since 2021. However, there are concerns about rising inflationary pressures with input costs surging for the steepest rate in four years mainly driven by higher oil prices during the month.
