Moderate Recovery in the Eurozone: Q2 2023 GDP Analysis

The Eurozone's GDP grew by 0.6% in the second quarter of 2023, following a stagnant first quarter. Spain was a key driver of this growth, followed by Germany and Italy with moderate expansions. However, recovery remains uneven among members of the Eurozone.

The second quarter of 2023 witnessed a moderate economic recovery for the Eurozone, with the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growing by 0.6% on a quarterly basis, up from the revised 0.4% growth reported in the previous estimate. This represents a significant jump compared to the first quarter of 2023, which experienced stagnation at around 0.0%. The recovery was led more strongly by Spain with a growth rate of 0.7%, followed by Germany and Italy that recorded moderate expansions of 0.3% and 0.2%, respectively. While growth has returned after a quarter of stagnation, the data suggest an immature and uneven recovery among Eurozone members. The bloc’s economy continues to face significant challenges such as geographical divergences in growth rates and global macroeconomic uncertainties.
