New Directions for Indian Banking Sector’s CVA Framework: Impact and Opportunities

RBI is revising its CVA framework to comply with BCBS guidelines. Banks can now choose between full or simplified basic approaches, offering more flexibility and alignment with international practices.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) recently invited public comments on the draft 'Credit Valuation Adjustment (CVA) Framework'. This move is a response to the revised guidelines proposed by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS), which updated its CVA recommendations under the final Basel III framework. The new guidelines will allow Indian banks to adopt either the full or simplified basic approach of CVA, providing flexibility and aligning local practices with global standards. These changes aim to enhance risk sensitivity in India's financial system while accommodating the operational needs of banks.
