Regulatory Adjustment: Impact on Urban Co-operative Banks
The RBI adjusted CRR and SLR guidelines for urban cooperative banks, extending the deadline for exceptions on FCNR(B) and NRE deposits. This change aims to reduce pressure on these institutions and enhance financial flexibility.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) recently revised the guidelines related to Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) and Statutory Liquidity Ratio (SLR) for urban cooperative banks. The adjustment aims to alleviate pressure on these institutions, particularly in a period marked by global economic uncertainties. A notable change is that the deadline for exceptions on FCNR(B) and NRE deposits has been extended from August 30, 2026, to August 31, 2026. This measure seeks to enhance financial flexibility, allowing banks to explore longer-term deposit options up to five years. The decision reflects a need to adapt monetary policies to the current market dynamics where macroeconomic challenges require a more attentive approach towards local and international financial participants.
