Resilient Indian Economy Amidst Global Turbulence

The RBI's September 2026 bulletin highlights the resilience of the Indian economy amid global turbulence, with robust growth and positive high-frequency indicators in August last year.

Last month, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released its September 2026 bulletin offering a detailed analysis of the current state of the Indian economy and relevant trends. Despite the global scenario remaining turbulent with geopolitical tensions re-escalating in West Asia and increased volatility across financial markets, the Indian economy recorded robust growth of 7.8% for Q1:2026-27. High-frequency economic indicators also point to the resilience of the economy during August last year. Merchandise trade improved significantly due to a surge in exports, narrowing the merchandise trade deficit. Headline inflation edged up to 4.8% in August driven mainly by food and beverages along with fuel and core components. However, foreign exchange reserves reached an all-time high influenced by strong FDI flows and positive current account flows. These trends reflect well on the overall performance of the Indian economy amidst global uncertainties.
