Retail Entrepreneurs’ Confidence Declines Amid Adverse Conditions
The Index of Retail Entrepreneur’s Confidence (Icec) experienced a drop in August, signaling concerns among retailers over current business conditions. High interest rates and elevated default rates are key factors contributing to this reduced confidence.
Recent data released by the Confederation of National Business, Services, and Tourism (CNC) have shown a decline in the confidence levels among retail entrepreneurs. Following an 0.8% drop in July, the Index of Retail Entrepreneur’s Confidence (Icec) fell further by 0.6% in August to reach 101.3 points. This trend reflects growing concerns among retailers regarding current business conditions. The Icec is composed of three main components: expectations, investment intentions, and current conditions. In August, while the expectation increased marginally at 0.4%, the indicator for investment intentions only rose by 0.1%. However, it was notable that the component reflecting current business conditions saw a significant decrease (-2.5% compared to July), which is the primary contributor to the overall Icec decline.
