Services Sector in Spain: July's Record-Breaking Activity

The services sector in Spain witnessed record-breaking activity in July with significantly higher-than-expected levels of business activity. Domestic market demand was the key driver behind this strong growth.

Recent data on the services sector in Spain highlights a strong recovery, with business activity surging significantly in July. The Services Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for July rose to 58.3%, exceeding expectations of 54.9%. This is one of the highest levels since March 2023. Market demand was widely cited as the primary driver behind this growth, while input price inflation continued to ease further in a second consecutive month, reaching its lowest level since February. However, domestic market demand for new business grew much more than export orders, reflecting a stronger internal recovery. The composite PMI stood at 56.5% for July, above expectations. Overall, these figures suggest a positive outlook for Spain's economy, which remains one of the most resilient in Europe amid regional and global challenges. However, economic expansion may face headwinds if business confidence wanes and geopolitical uncertainty persists.
