Services Sector Weakens: A Sign of Macroeconomic Deceleration?
The ICS saw its steepest decline in nearly four years, reflecting rising concerns among service providers. This trend could indicate macroeconomic deceleration and is influenced by factors such as international trade relations and high household debt levels.
In July, the Confidence Index for Services (ICS) experienced a significant drop by 3 points to 87.8, marking its lowest value since November 2022. This decline suggests a challenging environment in the services sector, which accounts for nearly 70% of Brazil's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The analysis from FGV indicates possible macroeconomic deceleration at the beginning of the second half of the year, reflecting growing concerns among service providers regarding both current and future expectations. The downturn was driven by negative responses from business owners, pointing to a lower demand level and increased caution in response to unfavorable news that may impact their business operations.
