South Korea faces the risk of falling behind in stablecoin development due to regulatory uncertainty, according to Dante Disparte, Circle's global strategy chief. While delays in regulation can be tolerated, technological advancements cannot afford such lateness for both financial institutions and tech firms in South Korea. 'You can afford to be late to the regulation, but you don’t necessarily want to be late to the technology,' stressed Disparte in an interview with The Korea Herald in Seoul on Thursday. Despite its advanced banking and payment infrastructure, South Korea risks losing this edge if stablecoins are not integrated more significantly. As a major player in crypto and fintech domains, South Korea must address regulatory uncertainties to stay competitive globally, where other jurisdictions such as China, the United States, and the United Kingdom are rapidly advancing with successful regulation and pilot projects.
