Sugar in the Financial Markets: Reading the VRRR Auction of 2026
The second VRRR auction conducted by RBI in August 2026 showed strong market interest, with almost all offers accepted above the cutoff. This indicates an aggressive monetary policy to address growing inflation pressures.
Last week, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) conducted its second Overnight Variable Rate Reverse Repo (VRRR) auction. The notified volume was ₹50,000 million, with a significant market response, receiving offers totaling ₹53,938 million. The RBI accepted nearly all these proposals, setting the accepted amount at ₹50,013 million and maintaining the cutoff rate at 5.24%, which kept the weighted average rate unchanged. This decision reflects the global trend of higher interest rates and suggests a proactive monetary policy for combating rising inflation in India.
