Treasury Direct Responds to Fed’s Firm Stance on Inflation
President Warsh's remarks about persistent inflation have led to gains in Treasury Direct's prefix bonds, while inflation-linked bonds saw a slight decline. These statements reinforce expectations of tighter monetary policy in the coming months.
On Friday (28th), the prefix bonds of the Brazilian Treasury Direct saw significant gains, particularly the 2029 and 2032 bonds, which increased by 6 basis points each. Meanwhile, inflation-linked bonds experienced a slight decline, reflecting investors' expectations following President Kevin Warsh's remarks at the Jackson Hole Symposium. In his first speech since taking over as Fed Chairman in May, Warsh warned about the persistence of inflation and reaffirmed that the 2% target remains firm and unalterable. These statements have direct implications for global monetary policy, given the influence of Fed decisions on global financial markets and interest rates in other countries, including Brazil. The increase in Brazilian prefix bond rates can be seen as a reflection of concerns over economic stability and the necessary measures to control domestic inflation.
