U.S. Inflation: Pressures Contained but Present

TD Securities projects moderate inflation in August with services driving core CPI growth. Overall CPI is expected to rise more significantly due to higher energy and food prices. These projections impact U.S. monetary policy decisions and global investment strategies.

According to TD Securities' projections, the U.S. inflation picture for August is expected to be moderate. The core Consumer Price Index (CPI), which excludes food and energy prices, is forecasted to rise 0.19% month-over-month and 2.3% year-over-year. Services are identified as the primary driver of this trend, while core goods are projected to show a slightly negative performance. Meanwhile, the overall CPI – including energy and food – is expected to increase by 0.37% month-over-month and 3.4% year-over-year, driven primarily by higher energy prices. These projections have significant implications for the global economic landscape and U.S. monetary policy strategies. Continued trends in this direction could influence the determination of future interest rate paths by the Federal Reserve, as well as investor expectations in the international financial market.
