World Bank Boosts Private Capital Mobilization to $112 Billion
The World Bank has significantly increased its mobilization of private capital to US$ 112 billion recently. The goal is to double this figure to US$ 200 billion in the next two to three years, reflecting the growing importance of private capital in global financing efforts.
The World Bank recently announced a significant breakthrough in its strategy, successfully mobilizing an unprecedented US$ 112 billion in private capital over the past year. This figure represents more than triple the amount collected in the previous fiscal year and is part of the institution's broader effort to attract investments from pension funds, insurance companies, and asset managers such as BlackRock. Ajay Banga, the president of the World Bank since 2023, highlights that standardizing loans is critical for attracting this substantial capital. The goal is to double this figure to US$ 200 billion in the next two to three years. 'It’s where the big money is, and they don’t come to individual projects,' explains Banga, citing the support of BlackRock founder Larry Fink who has been pushing for a more robust investment structure in the private sector for years. This initiative reflects an increased recognition of the importance of private capital in promoting sustainable economic growth and addressing global challenges such as climate change and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, contributing to a more integrated approach between public and private financing globally.
